Obesity is a complex disorder involving an excessive amount of body fat. Obesity isn’t just a cosmetic concern. It raises your risk of illness and health issues like heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure. Obesity is a risk factor for a number of cancers.

Obesity is difficult to treat and has a high relapse rate. Most people who lose weight regain the weight within five years. Although medicines and diets can help, obesity treatment cannot be a short-term “fix,” but must be a lifelong commitment to appropriate dietary habits, enhanced physical activity and frequent exercise.  A Physician will usually suggest that a person has obesity if they have a high body mass index. A BMI between 25 and 29.9 indicates that a person is carrying excess weight. A BMI of 30 or over suggests that a person may have obesity.
